Reece Oxford staying in Germany
What is the point of sending him out on loan to a club that doesn't even play him.

Oxford set to stay in Germany despite reports

Reece Oxford is happy and settled in Germany and stories that he will be on his way back to West Ham in January look wide of the mark.

Academy boss Terry Westley has told ClaretandHugh that he has no idea where the story that he is set to return to the East End has come from.

Speaking exclusively to CandH the academy boss said that his conversations with Borussia Monchengladbach have remained entirely positive and given they have only played seven games and are tenth in the Bundesliga everyone believes Reece’s time will come.

He said: “I have no idea where the story has come from but Gladbach tell me they like him and were pleased with his performances in two friendly games and like his attitude in training. There is certainly no suggestion of him coming home unless they know something they haven’t told me.”

Reece in fact is having a German lesson every week and Westley said: “He has his own apartment and is really enjoying that and his life in the country.”

Meanwhile he and goalkeeper Nathan Trott have been called up for England under 20s during the international break with Nathan Holland on standby

Among the others drafted in to their national sides are Declan Rice and Josh Cullen (Republic of Ireland U21), Martin Samuelsen (Norway U21), Rihards Matrevics (Latvia U19), Anthony Scully (Republic of Ireland U19) and Dan Kemp (England U19).

Another example of the absolutely appalling squad management at our club.

Funny (not funny) how things work out isn't it.

Had he stayed, he'd most likely play against Bolton, and with Ginge out for a game or two, he could well have been sitting on OUR bench not getting game time instead of on theirs.

Maybe he isn't very good.
Didn't get all that many matches for reading either and Jaap Stam should be a good judge of a defender.

Seems bizarre that we would agree to a move to Germany without some guarantee of playing time.
My suspicion is that he will not play another Premier league game for us.

Agreed. Gladbach weren't shy in giving Christensen game time...maybe he's just not up to it yet. He played pre season for them so they had a look.

Re: Reece Oxford no games played for borussia mönchengladbach
He got injured in preseason so missed out.

Has been on the bench for the last few games but has been unused.

Will probably get a chance in their equivalent of the league cup and hopefully he will impress.

What's the point in him getting a chance to impress in the cup over there, when he could be getting a chance to impress in the cup over here?

It's ok, we had to make the lad a millionaire before he trained with the first team as we would have lost him to one of the big guns, a calculated risk that will not work out in the long run.

Re: Reece Oxford no games played for borussia mönchengladbach
He wasn't quite the finished article, so he's training with a proper coaching setup.

Here he would be playing 5--a-side and get injured.

He's better off training with them.

If he's half decent Bayern will buy him in the summer

That's how the German league works

Forget about this chump. Caught Billy big bollocks before he was any good. That Arsenal game was the catalyst and probably the worst thing that could have happened. Silly cunt. On to the next disappointing youth player idiots on here will be suggesting start ahead of seasoned professionals during a relegation scrap. Repeat fucking forever.

Re: Reece Oxford no games played for borussia mönchengladbach
Is there a team in British football with youth players as hyped up as they are at West Ham ? If we look at our so called brightest hopes ,Oxford couldn't get a start at reading and now doesn't get a kick in the bundesliga ,Samuelson failed to make the grade at either Blackburn or Peterboro last season and Cullen and Burke are both in and out the team at bottom of the league Bolton. Add to that the Quina loan falling through and Martinez marooned in the u23's , there seems to now be a lot of pressure on Declan Rice to keep the so-called academy of football alive .

Why would they guarantee him playing time? He's a gamble for them. What if he arrived with his reputation but turned out to not be able to apply himself - what Club would guarantee appearances for a player they didn't know would be good enough?

I thought this was an odd one and if he plays for them he should be playing for us

He's been sent out there to grow up, as much as he has been to learn and game. He even alluded to it himself, saying that he needs to get away from distractions.

B - Do you really believe in all that cliched old nonsense? It's a crock of shit. He's a footballer, he won't be any different just because he lives over there. Complete waste of time.

Re: Reece Oxford no games played for borussia mönchengladbach
As others say: maybe he just isn't "all that", and all that?

He won't be the first supposed wunderkind to find a level below what we all hoped. Freddie Sears anyone? Whatever the outcome, people need to stop getting so carried away. Bloke's started only 12 league games. 12 !! If we're pinning future hopes on him already, we're mad.

Re: Reece Oxford no games played for borussia mönchengladbach
There was meant to be a clause in the loan guaranteeing a certain amount of gametime. So either he has been shit or is coming back to full fitness.

Either way you dont improve on the pitch without playing first team football, regardless of how much you grow up off it.

Trevor B 8:38 Tue Sep 19
Re: Reece Oxford no games played for borussia mönchengladbach
I highly doubt that any loan contract would have a clause guaranteeing game time, all you would have is a handshake from the manager saying that he is looking to play the player as much as possible.
